After hitting the coast of Florida and moving upward through Georgia and into the Appalachians, Hurricane Helene dumped rain in North Carolina, Virginia, Tennessee, and other areas, creating major flooding. This storm has caused power outages, and in many places a lack of fuel and clean water. CAM members are doing their best to find places to reach out to the disaster survivors. Following are some areas where various Rapid Response and Search & Rescue teams have been assessing damages or providing cleanup.

Florida

  • A Rapid Response coordinator is in Perry assessing the damage. Some houses DRS rebuilt last year withstood the hurricane, but others didn’t.
  • Thankfully, the electricity in Perry and Tallahassee is basically restored.

Georgia

  • The Georgia Rapid Response team is starting cleanup in Valdosta today. The generator trailer was being used in that area to assist people without power.
  • Some of the Tennessee Rapid Response team are helping with a cleanup project in Waynesboro.

North Carolina

  • The North/South Carolina Rapid Response team got into Lake Lure yesterday where major flooding devastated the area. CAM’s Loaves & Fishes Food Kitchen, operated by the New Order Amish churches, is enroute to Lake Lure today. They are hoping to start serving food tomorrow.

Virginia

  • The Virginia Rapid Response team is working in Damascus, Virginia, today. On Friday and Saturday, the Search & Rescue team worked on the New River near Wytheville. They assisted with two different rescues for five adults and two children due to the flooding.

Tennessee

  • The Tennessee Search & Rescue team has been dispatched to search for those who are missing. Today, the Virginia and Ohio Search & Rescue teams are assisting the Tennessee team in searching through debris fields and flying drones in Jonesborough. As of last evening, 30 people were still missing in this area.
  • The generator trailer is being moved to Greenville, Tennessee, to assist with power outage

Please pray:

Pray for all the people who are affected by this devastation.

Pray for those who have lost family members due to the hurricane and flooding.

Pray for our staff and volunteers as they reach out to many hurting people.

Pray for wisdom for the ones in charge of the projects.
